After moving from Spain to Berlin in 2021, I faced the daunting challenge of navigating the city's competitive rental market. Frustrated by rising rents and endless rejections, I discovered Baugenossenschaften—housing cooperatives that offer affordable living options. After joining one and patiently waiting, I was thrilled to secure a cozy flat in Friedrichshain at a significantly lower rent than the market average. The experience not only provided me with a home but also connected me to a welcoming community. Joining a Baugenossenschaft turned out to be one of the best decisions of my expat journey!
